I've recently started to try out the PHPStorm IDE and for me it looks like it's a lot ahead of the competition.

It's not free but I think it's worth taking a look:
http://www.jetbrains.com/phpstorm/index.html

I'm not affiliated with the product in any way but since I like it I figure that it would be good if others have a look at it and see if they want to use it with Qcodo.

Things that I think set it apart from the competition.
good Intellisence for javascript / PHP
Refactorings for javascript / PHP
goto definition for javascript / php
auto parsing of javacsript / php (shows errors on scrollbar)

I have used intellij ide for java development and it was great!
I'm using Netbeans right now but I'm going to try phpstorm.

I'm hoping that this editor is as good as the java one.

Cheers,

Marcos

Mischa... thanks for the post -- Does it handle autocompletion of properties?

I use Eclipse PDT myself -- and while it at least makes some attempt at property autocompletion, I think it's still pretty weak compared to what I consider the gold standard of IDEs, which is Microsoft Visual Studio (no kidding).

I'm still looking for something that can at least compete with Microsoft Visual Studio, and I'm willing to pay pretty big $$$$ for it, too, since it's so central to coding productivity.  But so far, Eclipse PDT is the only thing that comes the closest (although still lagging by far).  So I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!

While the actual coding, refactoring, auto-complete, etc capabilities are all third party, and still lackluster, you can program in PHP in VS with VS.PHP by JCX Software:

http://www.jcxsoftware.com/vs.php

At this point, I wouldn't recommend it over netbeans / eclipse / Aptana unless you need a VS specific plugin.

Mike I know what you mean, I'm a .NET programmer by day and so far the best thing to approach the sexyness of VS.NET is PHPStorm.

So far I've tried (for php):
Eclipse based IDE's (felt clunky and complicated)
PHPED (Felt ok, when not working with too large files)
VS.PHP (don't really remember)

Dreamweaver (very long ago)
MS just released a new tool called webmatrix which is also supposed to have PHP support but I won't have a chance to try that out for a while.

I severely doubt it will be as good as PHPStorm.

Hi all,

I am using Zend Studio for Eclipse, wich is PDT with vitamines, many more features (to do EVERYTHING inside the IDE, from PHP,HTML and CSS Editors to DATABASE Browser, passing from Source Version Control, Tracking, and Web Browser), about the autocomplete, is good (just good), the lag (wich exists), is really very few in my opinion...

My opinion... give it a try... i think that Zend Studio is a good choice.

Just my two cents...

PD: Sorry for my amateur english :P

I suggest free PHP IDE Codelobster PHP Edition
It has also many plug-ins for all most popular frameworks.
