It's been a while since I posted some updates... so I thought I should do so. =)
Things have been really busy, epecially on the forums! I'm glad to see so many people ramping up and using Qcodo... it's great to see this community continuing to grow and thrive.
With that being said, I don't usually check the logs/counters on the website to see what kind of traffic/stats Qcodo is having, but I did happen to a little while ago, and we already passed the 10,000 download mark. In fact, we're already well over 11,000, so I can only assume we passed 10k at least a month or so ago. When Qcodo was first released, we always thought it'd be really cool if we could hit 10k in the first year. I had no idea we'd be able to hit it within 10 months.
And as people are beginning to blog about it more and more, as more webcasts and conferences begin to show it off, I am excited to see it grow even more.
Upcoming Qcodo Presentations
Qcodo will be presented at the DC PHP Conference on Oct 19 - 20... specically, I wlll be giving a talk entitled “WebServices: Integrating with Other Agencies” where I'll be demoing the SOAP and WebService integration features in Qcodo. If you're able to, I'd highly encourage you to try and make it out to the conference... they have some great talks lined up. More information can be found here: <http://www.dcphpconference.com/>
I've also been asked by MySQL to do another Webinar showcasing Qcodo's Rapid AJAX development features on (of course) a MySQL database. No firm information as of yet, but I'll definitely post when we get all the details figured out.
QForge and Qcodo Downloads
A while back, Qcodo Core Contributor Mike Hostetler launched QForge (link is at the top of the navbar). We're all very excited about the project and how much it will add to the Qcodo community. But there have been a little bit of confusion as to the differences between QForge and Qcodo Downloads.
* *Qcodo Downloads is primarily for simple modules and quick scripts that people feel are a benefit to the Qcodo community. These kinds of scripts and modules do not need to have versioning, source control, or in depth discussions and issue management. And so Qcodo Downloads offers a very quick and easy way for people to upload these module/scripts without any overhead whatsoever.
* *QForge is primarily for Qcodo modules and other projects which can take advantage of having better code sharing functionality like source code control, versioning, issue management and group discussion boards. There is a very small overhead in needing to have it set up... but once this is completed, communities of developers can grow to help support these Qcodo modules and projects.
And finally, keep in mind that both are intended to allow OSS developers to come together to share Qcodo and Qcodo-related code, modules, and products with each other in the hope to improve the quality of the framework and community as a whole.
Yay Open Source! =)
Upcoming Releases
We're trying to finish up the 0.2.15 release, which will be a minor, mostly bug-fixes release -- although not officially released yet (we may still be putting more stuff in before we consider it “official”), you can download the current dev 0.2.15 release from the “Development” section. When things are good and stable, we'll release it officially and make another announcement for it.
This will likely be the final release in the Beta 2 tree.
There are lots of things that are currently underway in development for Beta 3, and I'm personally incredibly excited to see everything come to fruition. There are a lot of modules written by Qcodo community members which we're reviewing and hoping to put in, we're working to make security and configuration even better, adding much better support to CLI and continuing to improve I18n functionality. And most importantly, we'll be incorporating a new command line “upgrade utility”. Once installed, you'll be able to upgrade and downgrade you Qcodo framework using a simple command line tool, kind of like YUM or RPM, thus making it easier for administrators to use and test/try out new releases of Qcodo without fear of breaking existing applications.
Because of all these changes, I felt it was time to christen the release as “Beta 3”.
I don't have a firm date as of yet... I'm actively working on this to try and get everything sorted out. But I'm hoping it can be released in the next 2 weeks or so.
